Noted Historian and Author will be
Keynote Speaker at CSPA Annual Meeting

Jon Meacham, noted historian and author, as well as editor of Newsweek, will deliver the keynote address at CSPA’s 2008 Annual Meeting, which will be held Dec. 7 to 11 at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Described by the New York Times as “one of the most influential editors in the news magazine business,” Meacham is a skilled raconteur and eloquent speaker whose firm grasp of complex issues enables him to assess their impact on people’s lives now and in the future.  His discussion will resonate very well with the 95th Annual Meeting theme of Learning from the Past, Preparing for the Future.

Jon Meacham became editor of Newsweek in October 2006 after serving as managing editor since 1998 and national editor beginning in 1995.  As managing editor, he supervised the magazine’s coverage of politics, international affairs and breaking news.  On his watch, Newsweek’s reporting was honored with a National Magazine Award for General Excellence twice, in 2002 and 2003.

His book Franklin and Winston: An Intimate Portrait of an Epic Friendship, a chronicle of the wartime relationship between Roosevelt and Churchill, was published in 2003 and became a New York Times bestseller.  It was named a Los Angeles Times  book of the year and won the Churchill Centre’s 2005 Emery Reves Award for the best book of the year on Winston Churchill.  His latest book, American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House will be released in November and available for signing at the CSPA Annual Meeting.
