CAPCO Seeks Aerosol Industry Guidance with Survey

The aerosol industry educational foundation, the Consumer Aerosol Products Council (CAPCO), is asking industry representatives to help it identify key issues, audiences and messages as a first step in developing a new strategic plan to help CAPCO promote accurate information about the benefits and environmental compatibility of the aerosol package.  CAPCO is encouraging everyone in the aerosol industry to participate by completing a 14-question survey available at http://www.cspa.org/survey/capco.php.

The survey begins by asking the participant’s opinion on how consumers view the aerosol package and includes questions about the impact of certain public policy issues on the industry, key audiences that influence policy and potential messages to address those issues.
All questions are multiple-choice with seven of them requesting a ranking of answers.  The survey also includes an option to review background information on key public policy issues prior to completing the questions.

For many years CAPCO has worked hard to correct inaccurate public perception about chlorofluorocarbons in aerosols, and respond to misleading media reports about the environmental compatibility of aerosol products.  The foundation also has sponsored an educational program to help teachers provide accurate information about the aerosol package to their students.

“CAPCO has had a very specific and important targeted focus,” said its chairman, Joe Bowen of the Aeropres Corporation, “but with today’s increased public concern about the environment, we thought that it was timely to make sure that we aren’t missing any opportunities to promote accurate information about the aerosol package.”

The CAPCO strategic plan is being developed under a new agreement between the foundation and CSPA that is designed to create synergism between the two organizations.  Under that agreement, Consultant Bill Lafield, former CSPA vice president, will serve as a staff executive for CAPCO.

“CAPCO and the Aerosol Products Division have always worked closely together on major issues facing the industry,” said CSPA President Chris Cathcart.  “The addition of a dedicated staff resource will make our efforts even more effective.”

Access to the survey will be available until late August.  Shortly afterwards the results will be presented to CAPCO’s Board of Trustees and other aerosol groups.  The results also will be posted on the CAPCO and CSPA web sites and available to all interested parties.
